CHILDRENS FAITH FORMATION
Bishop Dennis Sullivan celebrated the Rite of Election at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Blackwood. Catechumens from around the diocese joined together to formally affirm their intention to join the Roman Catholic Church. In the presence of the bishop, they inscribed their names in the Book of the Elect as a pledge of fidelity.

 Religious Education Overview

The Parish Religious Education Program (PREP), through its staff and volunteers, fosters the faith formation of children from age 4 through 14, typically in grades Pre-K through 8. Sacramental preparation is an important focus of the Grade 2 program (First Reconciliation & First Communion) and Grade 8 program (Confirmation). Sacramental celebrations are parish-wide events and include students from local school districts.

"If we want to have a good society, we must concentrate all our forces on the Christian education of the young. Experience has taught me that if we wish to sustain civil society then we should take good care of the young."
~St. John Bosco
I recently read a poll stating that 70% of people in the US who identify as Catholic do not believe in the true presence of the Eucharist. This was astounding to me! I am truly baffled at this fact and began to wonder where did we go wrong in our faith?
The religious education students are making their First Holy Communion in May. The most important thing for us to teach them is that what they will be receiving is NOT bread it is the actual Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. It simply looks and tastes like bread. This is not an easy fact for any of us to understand, which is why it is called a mystery. However, our inability to understand does not make it any less real! I think we all can fall into the habit of receiving Communion without even realizing that its mystery may be lost in our conscious thoughts. I once quoted St. John Vianney as saying, “If we truly understood the Mass, we would die of joy.” The same is true for the Holy Eucharist.

So let us take some time to really think about what it is we are receiving in Holy Communion. Jesus is always, always waiting for us in love.  Receiving Him as often as possible is the greatest thing we can do for our salvation.

We are all so, so blessed to have our Catholic faith. Sometimes we forget that, myself included. Not only is it important for us to remember for ourselves, but also for the generation that is growing now. They are the future of the Church.

Estimados feligreses,
