Religious Education

Overview

The Parish Religious Education Program (PREP), through its staff and volunteers, fosters the faith formation of children from age 4 through 14, typically in grades Pre-K through 8. Sacramental preparation is an important focus of the Grade 2 program (First Reconciliation & First Communion) and Grade 8 program (Confirmation). Sacramental celebrations are parish-wide events and include students from local school districts.

What is Catechesis?

The Catechism of the Catholic Church  reflects the insights of Pope John Paul II's encyclical  Catechesi Tradendae  when it states that catechesis is "the totality of the Church's efforts to make disciples, to help men believe that Jesus is the Son of God so that believing they might have life in his name, and to educate and instruct them in this life, thus building up the body of Christ" (#4).

More specifically, the  Catechism  goes on to say that catechesis "is an education in the faith of children, young people, and adults which includes especially the teaching of Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life" (#5).

2016 Religious Education News and Forms

Our summer supplement to religious education, St. Gabriel’s Youth Retreat for Grades 3 through 8, will take place the week of July 25th. It is not required, nor will it count toward religious education hours. An informational flyer can be accessed here, and the Youth Retreat Registration Form can be accessed here

In the Fall, we will continue to offer 2 sessions for Religious Education. The details are listed below. You must choose one session or the other. You cannot switch sessions from week to week as this would be unfair to teachers. Both sessions would be running from September through May. Both sessions will be held at the school across the street from Corpus Christi.

  • Wednesday Evening Sessions 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM
  • Sunday Morning Sessions 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM

When completing the Registration Form (available here), please indicate which session your child or children will be attending.

Attention, those who home school or send their children to Catholic School: Please complete the Registration Form and indicate home school or Catholic school.

All Registration Forms are due back (with payment) by August 5th. Any forms or payments not received by then will incur a late fee of $10. You can mail the form back or return to the parish office or return in the collection basket at Mass in an envelope marked “Religious Education”.

The fee for both sessions is the same. It is $60 for the first child and $30 for each additional child.

All students in second and eighth grades will be required to fully participate in additional Sacramental Prep Programs scheduled during the school year for their upcoming sacrament reception, which may include special classes, other meetings and events.

Reminder - all children grades 2 through 8 in religious education are required to sign-in weekly at Mass. This continues over the summer. If Mass is attended elsewhere, please turn in a bulletin from that parish for that week with your child’s name written on it.

We hope to keep improving upon what already works well in our parish to give our students an educational, inspirational and faith-filled experience. It is our prayerful hope that through this program of religious education they will come to know and love Our Lord and grow in their relationship with Him.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

A Night at the Wax Museum

Students at Guardian Angels Regional School recently held a Night at the Wax Museum. Several of our children participated as wax displays, and were quite stunning in their portrayals:
